Close up of zip closure of yellow and grey MidnightSUN bag

No dark moon rising here – it’s all about the MidnightSUN!! This workhorse of a bag pattern is now available to purchase from my ETSY store! To celebrate the release of this pattern, the first in the SUNseries, there is also a 25% discount on all patterns until Tuesday 20th April 2021! Time to grabaTRAP perhaps??

A super flexible pattern; the MidnightSUN can be made as a tote, shoulder or crossbody bag, with a snap, zipped or drawstring closure. It has a simple modern aesthetic with a large outer curved pocket to the front that is complimented by a curved internal pocket along with the option of a zipped welt pocket.

The MidnightSUN comes in two heights; cropped and tall. The cropped version is a great size for a generous handbag or project bag; approximate finished internal dimensions: 22cm (8 ½ inches) tall x 37cm (14 ½ inches) wide at the main opening, 13cm (5 inches) deep at the base.

The taller MidnightSUN makes a fab tote/crossbody bag or a larger project bag; approximate finished internal dimensions: 30cm (12 inches) tall x 37cm (14 ½ inches) wide at the main opening, 13cm (5 inches) deep at the base.

There are also lots of strap styles to choose from and combine; short hand straps, tote straps, flatlay straps, shoulder/short crossbody strap or a detachable crossbody strap.

Both height options feature a generous main bag and a large external curved pocket. Internally you can choose from a host of options; keep it simple or add a zipped welt pocket, a curved patch pocket, or a simple rectangular patch pocket.

It is a “Confident Beginner/Intermediate” level pattern. Depending on your sewing experience, there may be a few challenging elements to making this bag – mainly in relation to sewing with multiple layers of fabric and webbing, and zips can be a bit daunting for some. The pattern has lots of options; some straightforward and some a bit more challenging. However my hope is that the comprehensive tutorial should empower an adventurous beginner to tackle all elements with confidence.
