APEXsewalong Stage 1

Stage 1 of the APEXsewalong is live with a video posted up on my brand spanking new YouTube channel! Can’t say I ever thought I’d have a YouTube channel… “Mammy, just don’t say “Welcome to my YouTube channel!”” I was warned!

This week of the sewalong is simply about getting organized. In the sewalong video I go through the fabrics, notions, interfacing, hardware and tools I used to make the sewalong APEXcarry. I get the boring jobs done of cutting out fabric and applying interfacing… yuck!

The APEXcarry pattern (along with the APEXpouch and APEXbundle) is on sale for the period of the sewalong so there is still a chance to grab the pattern and join in! Once you have your pattern the tough decisions start with fabric selection! Time to get focused!

For those of you who have just discovered the sewalong here’s how it’s going to work!

How will the sewalong work?

The idea of an APEXsewalong was sparked when I was sent some lovely waxed canvas by Lili of Sun Kiss Melbourne. I suggested that we do a sewalong for two reasons. Firstly the APEXcarry has been a hugely popular pattern. Lots of lovely sewing folk have bought it and wouldn’t it be good to get that pattern made? Secondly what better way to showcase the gorgeous fabric than by showing it off in a pattern that is so suited to the fabric!

The sewalong is taking place over the course of the next few weeks with stage videos published each Thursday, a live chat on Instagram that evening (8pm Irish time) and a chat over in the In Complete Stitches Sew & Share Facebook group on a Sunday morning.

There are two worksheets that have been prepared for the APEXsewalong. Firstly an APEXsewalong Prep Checklist and second, for those of you with an imperial measurement mind an APEXsewalong Conversion Chart! Get them here:

You can sew at your own pace and follow the stages or go rogue! Whatever suits you!

We do, however, have some delightful stage prizes on offer so to join in and have a chance of winning a prize simply make a post over on Instagram tagging @incompletestitches and @sunkissmelbourne using the hashtag #apexsewalong and let us how what stage you are at and how you are getting on!!

Post any time before the following Sunday 7pm (Irish time, or before you go to bed if you happen to line in Melbourne, Australia for example) with an update! You can be running behind, be finished, be on schedule, have gone on holidays with your APEXcarry. Whatever!!

For example, to be eligible for the first giveaway, make your post between now and this Sunday evening 17th April!! (This giveaway is open to those over 18 years of age and is in no way associated with Instagram.)

What could you win?

What a wonderful set of prizes!! A huge thank you to all the fabulous sewing businesses that have shown such generous support of this fun event!

I look forward to seeing what everyone makes over the next few weeks! It has been great fun preparing the videos – always good to get out of the comfort zone and I hope you all enjoy making your APEXcarries! Next week should be much more fun as I cover preparing the outer bag!
