PLANETARYliebe

First Published May 2022

Today sees the release of the Planetary Backpack pattern in a German language edition! To celebrate, both English and German language versions of the pattern are now on sale with a 20% discount until Sunday 5th June 2022. All other listings in the Etsy store have 10% off too!

The Planetary Backpack pattern was the first pattern I published, and so holds a special place in my heart. It initially featured in One Thimble Digital Sewing Magazine in early 2020 and since then has been available in my Etsy store as a stand alone pattern.

I was thrilled, but nervous, when my wonderful sewing friend Angela Wren (@_fingerhut) kindly offered to translate the pattern into German for me. As a talented sewist who teaches translation at University of Graz I could not have been more lucky to have had such help. It was still, however, a little jump into the darkness as I speak little or no German myself so I was a bit nervous about embarking upon the project. Largely due to nervous procrastination on my part, and the daily juggle, it has taken since 2020 to get the translation out into the world! Thank you so much to Angela for your patience and support!

Once we had it ready, I approached a few amazing German speaking sewers to see if they would be interested in sewing up some examples of the pattern. Kristina of Spreefee Bag Making Supplies (a Germany based online shop) kindly made some introductions and have a look at these amazing versions that appeared!! They all reported back with great feedback on the pattern and the translation, which has given me confidence and great support in publishing the pattern!

Planetary Hacks!

Over the past couple of years a few #PLANETARYhack tutorials have been published. To make it easy for you to locate them here they are:

1. Mini Hack Tutorial: Simple Drawstring Casing

2. An extra bit of padding can be useful if you might be carting the house around with you in your Planetary Backpack. But you don’t want to interfere with the drawstring closure by making the padding run the full width of the main back panel. Click to download the Back Padding Hack Tutorial pdf, giving you guidance on how to cut your padding to the best shape!

3. The front Mountain Pocket and the Front Flap are ripe for hacking with some lovely piping. Click to download the Piping Hack Tutorial pdf.

So all that’s left is to go get your pattern while it is on sale and get to some Planetary sewing!! xx Sarah.
