BALANCEpouch PDF Sewing Pattern

The BALANCEpouch is a uniquely shaped and simply constructed modern pouch pattern. It has a number of versatile uses; crossbody purse, wash bag, coin purse, makeup pouch... whatever your imagination holds!

There are four basic sizes; mini, small, medium and large with zipper, strap and pocket options to play with. The small, medium and large sizes also come with two depth options. The main curved seams have a bound finish internally holding that lovely shape of the BALANCEpouch.

Approximate Finished Dimensions:

MINI: overall width: 13.5cm (5 1/3"), overall height: 10.5cm (4 1/8"), overall depth: 5.5cm (2 1/8") . The main opening takes a 15cm (6") closed ended zip.

SMALL: overall width: 20cm (8"), overall height: 15cm (6"), overall depth: narrow - 5.5cm (2 1/8"), wide - 9cm (3 1/2"). The main opening takes a 20cm (8") closed ended zip.

MEDIUM: overall width: 24.5cm (9 5/8"), overall height: 19cm (7 1/2"), overall depth: narrow - 5.5cm (2 1/8"), wide - 9cm (3 1/2"). The main opening takes a 25cm (10") closed ended zip.

LARGE: overall width: 29cm (11 1/2"), overall height: 22.5cm (8 7/8"), overall depth: narrow - 6cm (2 3/8"), wide - 10cm (4”). The main opening takes a 30cm (12") closed ended zip.

The BALANCEpouch is a "Confident Beginner/Intermediate” level pattern. The construction is very straightforward, the trickiest element is handling the curved edges along with multiple layers of fabric. The accompanying comprehensive tutorial will empower you to tackle all elements with confidence.

OUTER FABRIC:

Most mid-heavy weight woven fabrics are suitable such as oilskin/waxed canvas, mid - weight canvas, denim. Quantities of fabric vary depending on size, option and colour blocking choices. The largest size requires up to 40cm (0.9yrd) of 110cm/42" wide outer fabric.

LINING:

Medium-lightweight cotton, quilting cotton, linen, mid-light weight canvas. Quantities of fabric vary depending on size, option and colour blocking choices. The largest size requires up to 40cm (0.9yrd) of 110cm/42" wide outer fabric.f 110cm/42" wide lining fabric.

NOTIONS required include (depending on your option choice):

- Main Zipper: a closed ended zip in one of the following lengths:

LARGE: 30cm (12")

MEDIUM: 25cm (10")

SMALL: 20cm (8”)

MINI: 15cm (6")

You can use a continuous coil zipper; just allow a minimum of 3cm (1") longer zipper length than the sizes above.

- Bias Binding: Ready made or self made bias binding to finish the internal seams. Allowing a bit extra for ease of construction you will approximately: LARGE: 2m (2 1/4"yds), MEDIUM: 1.6m (1 3/4yds), MINI: 1m (1 1/4yds).

- OPTIONAL: Front Zipper: a closed ended zip in one of the following lengths:

LARGE: 23cm (9")

MEDIUM: 20cm (8")

SMALL: 15cm (6")

MINI: 10cm (4")

You can use a continuous coil zipper; just allow 2cm (1") longer zipper length than the sizes above.

- OPTIONAL: Adjustable Crossbody Strap: Up to 1.8m (2yd) of 2.5cm (1") wide webbing, 2x D-Rings, 2x Swivel Hooks, 1x Adjustable Slider to match the width of the webbing. You can of course use a self made strap from your fabric or some leather strapping, the tutorial covers preparing the strap with webbing.

- OPTIONAL: Hand Strap: 2.5cm (1") wide leather/webbing or self-made strap in one of the following approximate lengths:

LARGE: 15cm (6")

MEDIUM: 14cm (5 1/2")

SMALL: 14cm (5 1/2")

MINI: 10cm (4")

- Interfacing: The BALANCEpouch can be made without overall interfacing, however, depending on the fabric you use and the level or structure that you desire, you may wish to interface some areas. The pattern tutorial contains suggestions on suitable fabrics and on areas where you may want to consider adding interfacing.

- Denim needle/needle suitable for your fabric choice.
