Good evening from a windy, intermittently sunny, sporadically rainy Dublin! School has finished up for my gang and the SLOUCHYshopper pattern has just been released! Busy days and long nights!

The SLOUCHYshopper is a wonderful beginner bag-making pattern. It's a quick sew and a great way to learn simple, practical bag-making skills while creating a super useful shopper tote that shows off those gorgeous pieces of fabric from your stash! As An (@jacedidit) remarked during testing: “What a blissful bag to make: not difficult but still with some extras so it’s really fun!”

The SLOUCHYshopper was designed following the wonderful feedback, and requests for a pattern, I received when I posted about my own stripy slouchy shopper that I had made for myself. I still use it all the time. The depth means that I can be sure essentials don’t fall out and if I need to do a pit stop by a supermarket, or get loaded down with the children’s “stuff”, I have plenty of room. I love the relaxed nature of the bag but with the addition of a lovely leather strap it still feels a bit more than basic.
When developing the idea into a pattern I felt it needed an internal pocket - they are always handy for a phone, a wallet or a notebook. I wanted to keep this a beginner level pattern but still wanted some fun sewing! My patterns testers agreed that the simple but oh so satisfying construction of the hanging slip pocket adds just the right amount of fun to a fast sew! It hangs from the top facing seam, counter balanced by the hand straps about. It “slouching” perfectly into the main bag!

During testing Marianne of @bergmar_handmade hacked the pattern and shrank it by 85% when printing, see below! The smaller size was irresistible so I created a medium size option! I didn’t go too small however, as fundamentally a “shopper” needs to be of a certain size to be a shopper, right? But perhaps the medium size will suit some people as more of a crossover size, between purse and shopper!
About The Pattern:
The SLOUCHYshopper pattern comes in two sizes, medium and large. The large size is a traditionally big shopper, perfect for carrying about all you need for a trip to the beach, swimming lessons, the supermarket... The medium size still has lots of room but might be a better size for day to day use?
Both sizes of the SLOUCHYshopper have one main bag compartment with a nifty hanging slip pocket and lanyard strap and clip internally. Both medium and large can be made with a choice of a detachable shoulder strap or an adjustable shoulder strap, along with in seam hand straps.
Skill Level? The SLOUCHYshopper is a "Beginner” level pattern. The bag construction is very straightforward, but with some lovely details to keep it fun! It is a great introductory bag-making pattern, perfect for beginner bag makers and suitable for making on a domestic sewing machine!

As always, I’ve been blown away by the creativity, patience, generosity and skills of the wonderful bunch of people who so kindly help testing my patterns. As you can see below a host of gorgeous SLOUCHYshoppers were created during the testing process! A huge thank you to the entire testing team for all your help! I was delighted that the overall feedback was that it is a super fun bag to sew and super practical bag! Yay!! The nifty construction of the slip pocket was a real favourite!
