The COSYpouch is an "Beginner " level pattern.
A straightforward sew with a few gently challenging elements depending on your sewing experience; mainly in relation to sewing binding, a curved base
and handling a few layers of fabric. It may feel un-intuitive but the easiest version to start with would be the large size. Handling the smaller curves of the smallest size is that little bit trickier. However this comprehensive tutorial is designed to empower any beginner to tackle all elements with confidence.

A light/mid weight fabric has been proposed for the COSYpouch; the same for both outer and lining fabrics. Linen, quilting cotton, light weight canvas all work! Almost any light/midweight woven fabric would be suitable, and you can certainly experiment with heavier weights too. Bear in mind that the drawstring casing will need to gather to close, so a heavier weight fabric for this element may not be suitable. This simple pattern is a fabulous canvas for playing with textures and colours!!
FABRIC QUANTITIES:
You will find further details within the pattern tutorial.
Simple: If making the individual pouches using the same fabric throughout, including self made matching bias binding, you will need the following quantities:
Small: 0.3m (or 1/2 yrd) of 1.1m (42") wide fabric
Medium: 0.5m (or 1/2 yrd) of 1.1m (42") wide fabric
Large: 0.75m (or 3/4 yard) of 1.1m (42") wide fabric
Colour-blocked:
DIAGONAL/WAVE colour-blocking: In addition to the individual quantities of main fabric above, if making individual pouches with diagonal colour-blocking you will need small quantities of contrast fabric:
Small: approximately 10cm (or 4" ) tall x 40cm (or 16") wide
Medium: approximately 13cm (or 5 1/2") tall x 53cm (or 21") wide
Large: approximately 16cm (or 6 1/2") tall x 65cm (or 26") wide
CURVE colour-blocking: In addition to the individual quantities of main fabric above, if making individual pouches with curved colour-blocking you will need small quantities of contrast fabric
Small: approximately 15cm (or 6") tall x 60cm (or 24") wide
Medium: approximately 20cm (or 8") tall x 75cm (or 30" ) wide
Large: approximately 25cm (or 10") tall x 90cm (or 35") wide

NOTIONS required include:
Drawstring Cord: Waxed cord, leather cord, laces, twill tape, cotton cord or similar. Some excess length is included in the approximate allowances shown below. Don't cut any excess off until you are fully finished as the cord will be easier to handle with a bit extra length.
Small: 0.7m (3/4 yard)
Medium: 0.85m (1 yard)
Large: 1m (1 1/4 yard)
Bias Binding: The pattern calls up a binding finish to the top rim of the pouch. Bias binding strips with an overall flat width of approximately 4 - 4.5cm (1 1/2 - 1 3/4") is ideal. You can use ready made binding but the fabric quantities on the previous page allow for making your own, and you need the following approximate lengths. Some excess length is included, don't cut any excess off until you are finished joining the ends as it will be easier to handle with a bit extra length.
Small: 0.6m (3/4 yard)
Medium: 0.75m (1 yard)
Large: 0.9m (1 yard)
OPTIONAL - Drawstring Toggle: The tutorial calls up the use of a strip of leather (about 1cm wide by 8cm long) and a double capped rivet to gentle restrain the drawstring closure. You may alternatively wish to add a toggle to restrain your drawstring closure, or simply allow for the friction of the cord and fabric to hold the fabric gently closed.
Interfacing: To give the COSYpouch some gentle structure it is proposed to simply use two layers of cotton batting as an inter layer (quilted to the outer fabric) between the main outer and lining fabrics of the sides and base of the pouches. One layer of a lofted fusible interfacing such as Vilene H640 will also work very well.
